Tourist briefs
Welcome to Gay Puerto Rico...

This is an English version of the highlights of our website, which is dedicated to the gay life in Puerto Rico. We inaugurated this past November 5th and we are pleased that our tourists have enjoyed are site so much, that they have requested we provide an English version certain parts of our cyber newsmagazine, so they can enjoy their stay in Puerto Rico.

LANGUAGE
Colorful to say the least, its Spanish and sometimes Spanglish

Most of us speak Spanish, although a great deal of us speak English and alot speak both languages. You should find no trouble being able to communicate. A few words to get you started in our language.

hello... Hola
good-bye... Adiós
good morning... Buenos días
good afternoon... Buenas tardes
good evening... Buenas noches
how much does it cost... Cuánto cuesta
I want to get to know you... Quiero conocerte
I want a beer... Quiero una ceverza
I want a good massage... Quiero un buen masaje
I am hungry... Tengo hambre
thank you... Gracias
you are welcome... A sus órdenes

MONEY
It's green and it can be plastic too.

We use USA currency, all major credit cards, and traveller's checks. As in any major metropolitan area in the world, beware of pickpockets.

WEATHER
Dreamy, earthtone sunsets and bright beautiful sunrises

It is mostly good, summer weather. It gets a bit cool in December to 70 degrees F and in the inner island mountain areas to the low 50's...

POLITICAL SCENE
Red, blue and green and Red, white and blue

We are a Commonwealth with strong ties with the United States. Puerto Ricans are citizens of the US since 1917 as decreed by the Jones Act. We have served in all major wars.

We have a local government similiar to that of any state, a locally elected Govenor, two legislative branches and the judicial branch of government. We also have 78 municipal or local governments with their respective mayors and city councils. Our elections are every four years and we elect to US Congress a non-voting representative, the Resident Commissioner.

Politics is the national pastime, and unless you want to get into a debate in Spanish, it is a subject well enough to avoid. There are three major parties the PPD, PNP and the PIP, each advocating commonwealth, statehood and independence, respectively. Presently the PPD is in control of Govenorship and the two legislative houses.

CULTURE AND HISTORY
Black, red and white

Our culture is made up of inheritances frm three rich cultures from the past-the African, the Indian and the Spanish. We have a mixture of colors and types just like our rainbow. You will see dark-skinned handsome Caribbean men and women with clear blue or green eyes, who may have ancestors that were African, Indian, Spanish, Amercian or even European.
Just blend in into the many cultural events available during the year, that include music, art, museums or just island itself, with its natural beauty and warm hospitality.
