La Alianza Gay y Lésbica Contra la Difamación (GLAAD) anunció los nominados para su décimo sexta entrega anual de los Premios GLAAD a los Medios de Comunicación presentada por Absolut Vodka. Entre los nominados se encuentran: el cantante venezolano Franco de Vita por su canción "Rosa o Clavel", "Laura en América", segmentos noticiosos de la revista semanal de Univision "Aquí y Ahora" y de CNN en Español, artículos de El Diario/La Prensa, La Opinión y Primera Hora así también como su periodista Adria Cruz en la categoría Mejor Periodista de Periódico.

"Las imágenes veraces, objetivas e incluyentes tienen un poder cultural increíble - poseen el poder de abrir los ojos, los corazones y las mentes de toda la gente con respecto a lo que significa ser lesbiana, gay, bisexual y transgénero así también como acerca de nuestras a nuestras vidas y nuestras familias", dijo Joan M. Garry, Directora Ejecutiva de GLAAD... "

GLAAD, fundada en 1985, es la organización lésbica, gay, bisexual y transgénero en los Estados Unidos que aboga por imágenes veraces e incluyentes - con un personal de 43 empleados y un presupuesto anual de $7 millones de dólares y con oficinas en Los Ángeles y Nueva York. Se dedica a promover imágenes objetivas de la comunidad lésbica, gay, bisexual y transgénero (LGBT) en los medios de comunicación Hispano parlantes y en los medios en inglés para eliminar la homofobia y la discriminación en contra de la identidad del género y la orientación sexual.

Específicamente, el periódico Primera Hora se ha catalogado por ser pionero en su cobertura objetiva promoviendo imágenes reales de la comunidad GLBT boricua en toda su cobertura. De igual manera, la periodista Adria Cruz en su columna Treinta y tantos ha tratado el tema gay con respeto, altura y con gran sentido de humor. Enhorabuena.
